Full Biography
Bill Bishop is a bilingual American living in the Washington DC area. He co-founded CBS MarketWatch in 1997 and worked in several business roles over the years, the last as head of the MarketWatch consumer Internet business. He moved to Beijing in 2005 and lived there until August 2015.
He has 6 academic years of formal Chinese language studies, an MA in China Studies from Johns Hopkins SAIS and a BA from Middlebury College. He has lived and worked in China on and off for over 13 years since 1989 and is often quoted in major media such as Bloomberg, Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, Reuters, New York Times etc.
In January 2015 Foreign Policy named Bill Bishop to the The Pacific Power Index: 50 people shaping the future of the U.S.-China relationship. He was also named by Foreign Policy Magazine as one of the top 100 foreign policy “Twitterati” and by Danwei as Twitter “Model Worker of the Year” for 2012. He wrote the weekly China 中国 Insider column for the New York Times Dealbook from October 2012 to September 2013.
