China in Africa: Exploitation, Democracy and the Future of the Global Order
Project Summary
The project will take the form of a monograph, focusing on China's engagement in Africa. Specifically, it will examine the issues of exploitation, democracy, and the future of the global order. The research is motivated by the fact that while there are professed benefits to the relationship between China and Africa, there are also considerable negative consequences. China's support for undemocratic regimes in Africa has led to concerns regarding human rights, erosion of democratic practises and the exploitation of natural resources without regard for sustainable development. Furthermore, the compliance of many African leaders with these practices raises questions about the future of the global order. The fact that African states support China and its allies (Russia) in international affairs further complicates matters. This raises concerns about international democracy, peace, and sustainable development. The project aims to address these concerns and propose strategies for the international community to counteract such negative practices.
