Dr. Regina Akers is an historian with the Naval History and Heritage Command in Washington, DC and an expert on diversity issues in naval history. She was the keynote speaker at the Pentagon's observance of Black History Month in 2015.  Also, in December 26, 1944 – Dr. Akers, is the Navy Commissions First Black Female Officers.
