Full Biography
Elena Korosteleva is Professor and Director of the Institute for Global Sustainable Development, at the University of Warwick. She is also a co-founder and Visiting Professor at the Oxford Belarus Observatory. Before joining the IGSD in 2022, she was Professor of International Politics and Director of the Global Europe Centre (Professional Studies) at the University of Kent for ten years.
Elena’s research focus is on sustainable communities from a resilience and complexity-thinking perspectives, across Eastern Europe and Central Eurasia. Her recent £4mln GCRF COMPASS project (ES/P010849/1; £4mln; 2017-22) focused on capacity-building for sustainable development, and was highly commended by the Times Higher Education (THE) under the category of the Best International Collaboration of the Year (2021). Elena is the author of over 100 publications, including 11 monographs.
In 2022 Professor Korosteleva will also commence her new €3,007,895 Horizon Europe project (SHAPEDEM_EU), which she co-developed with her European colleagues, under the leadership of Professor Andrea Gawrich at JLU Giessen University, Germany, and for which she will act as Co-Investigator to redefine the theory and practice of democracy in the developing countries of the EU’s neighborhoods.
