Expert Bio

Fernando Sampaio is an Agricultural Engineer graduated from the Escola Superior de Agricultura “Luiz de Queiroz” in 1997, and with a specialization in the meat and milk market from the École Supérieure d’Agriculture d’Angers in France. 

Sampaio worked in the international meat market in France, at Société des Viandes Bretagne Anjou – Soviba between 2000 and 2001, and at Meat Import Zandbergen Brothers BV from 2001 to 2008. 

In 2009, he assumed the sustainability coordination of the Brazilian Association of Beef Exporters – ABIEC, and was its Executive Director from 2011 to 2016, acting in the institutional representation of the sector, international negotiations, trade promotion and at the same time continuing the sustainability agenda. 

He participated in the formation of the Grupo de Trabalho da Pecuária Sustentável – GTPS, a multistakeholder initiative, and was its President from 2015 to 2016, also participating in the Board of the Global Rountable for Sustainable Beef – GRSB and the Sustainability Committee of the International Meat Secretariat - IMS. 

In October 2016, he took on the position of Executive Director of the Produzir, Conservar, Include Strategy, a jurisdictional sustainability initiative in the State of Mato Grosso. Since then, it has been working to implement the Strategy, which enters a new phase with the creation of the PCI Institute in early 2019. 

As of February 2023, he returns to ABIEC as Sustainability Director.
