Expert Bio

Gitane is the Founder and Principal of the consulting firm, GDStrategic. She is a respected public policy and regulatory leader with over 20 years exective experience at the provincial, national, and international levels who is known for her expertise in the areas of energy, environment, trade, infrastructure, and Canada-U.S. relations. Past roles include CEO of the Canada Energy Regulator, Alberta’s Deputy Minister of International and Intergovernmental Relations, Alberta’s Senior Representative to the United States and Canada’s Consul General in Chicago. She has experience in trade and environment negotiations, having worked on the Canada US Mexico Agreement, Canada Free Trade Agreement and Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement, among others. Gitane holds a Bachelor of Arts (International Relations) from the University of British Columbia and the ICD.D designation (Institute of Corporate Directors). She is a past recipient of The International Alliance for Women World of Difference Award.
