Full Biography

 

Professor Haifeng Huang received his Ph.D. from Humboldt University of Berlin in Germany in 2000. He also studied at the Peking University School of Economics (1988-1991) and at the Johns Hopkins University-Nanjing University Center (1991-1992). Dr. Huang specializes in the green economy transition in China, focusing on areas such as waste management, corporate social responsibility, economic transition, green leadership, sustainable strategic management, and China studies. He has served as a board member of the UNGC PRME Steering Committee (2020-2023). Dr. Huang held full-time professorial positions at Peking University (2011-2020) and Beijing University of Technology (2002-2011), as well as visiting professor roles at Free University of Berlin and Ruhr University Bochum (2012-2018). He was appointed a Distinguished Professor in Higher Education Schooling by the Municipality of Beijing (2002) and later became a Distinguished Professor and Co-Chancellor of the China Institute for Responsible Management Education and Sustainable Development at Changzhou University in China (2021).

Dr. Huang is an accomplished author, having published over 10 books on sustainable development, business ethics, waste management, and the recycling economy. His book, "Recycling Economy in Germany," received national honors and contributed to the enactment of the Recycling Economy Promotion Law (2008) in China. In 2009, he wrote a proposal for "The Comprehensive Implementation of Waste Classification," winning the Most Influential Proposal Award in Beijing. From 2010 to 2020, Dr. Huang served as an independent inspector for China’s Ministry of Natural Resources, and from 2018 to 2023, he held the position of Deputy Secretary General for the Asia Education Forum. Additionally, Dr. Huang has devoted more than 20 years to educating on ecological poverty alleviation in rural areas.

In 2008, he co-founded the non-profit organization "Ecological Development Union International (EDUI)" with Dr. David Ness, Dr. Mannie Liu, and other notable scholars and entrepreneurs. Since then, EDUI has played a pivotal role in promoting sustainable development in China, establishing constructive forums and social institutions. In 2021, Dr. Huang was appointed as the first founding chairman of the China Academic Committee for Responsible Management Education, receiving support from notable individuals such as Dr. Mohan Munasinghe, the 2021 Blue Planet Prize Laureate and Vice-Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC),  Dr. Hualiang Lu (former Vice President of Changzhou University), and Dr. Mette Morsing (former head of the UN’s PRME). Comprised of deans and teachers from 80 universities and other institutes, the committee has actively responded to the United Nations PRME initiative to promote responsible management education for sustainable development in higher education.
