Helen Mack is President of the Myrna Mack Foundation, which she founded in 1993 with a group of like-minded Guatemalans committed to fighting impunity and contributing to the modernization and democratization of the administration of justice in Guatemala. Mack joined this struggle after the assassination of her sister, Myrna Elizabeth Mack Chang, a social anthropologist who at the time was investigating populations displaced by armed conflict. Helen Mack also helped to found Grupo Barómetro and Foro Guatemala in 2000 and 2001, respectively, and in 1997 was named to the Comisión para el Fortalecimiento de la Justicia. Mack has additionally participated in the movement Alianza contra la Impunidad in 1996, and in the creation of the Movimiento Pro Justicia in 1999.
