Expert Bio

Hideki Makihara is Japan’s Parliamentary Vice Minister of the Environment and a member of the House of Representatives from the Liberal Democratic Party. He is a member of the Lower House’s foreign affairs and budget committees. Makihara is also Commissioner of the Japanese Diet’s Special Committee on Nuclear Plant Accident Research. Prior to his election as a member of the House of Representatives, Makihara was with the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry, and was also an attorney. He has a license to practice law in the state of New York as well as in Japan. He received his B.A. in law from Tokyo University.
