Hoangmai (Mai) Pham, MD, MPH, is a general internist and the Acting Chief Innovation Officer at the CMS Innovation Center (CMMI), where she has responsibility for overseeing implementation of the Medicare and CHIP Reauthorization Act, and strategic and operational planning for the Center. Pham’s previous positions at CMMI were as Director of the Seamless Care Models Group, where she was responsible for the design and implementation of payment and care delivery models on accountable care organizations and advanced primary care. Prior to coming to CMS, she was senior health researcher and co-director of research at the Center for Studying Health System Change and Mathematica, an independent health policy organization in Washington. She has published extensively in the areas of care fragmentation and coordination, primary care, quality reporting and improvement, provider market trends, health disparities, and the intersection of each of these with provider payment policy. Pham received her AB from Harvard, her MD from Temple University, and her MPH from Johns Hopkins, where she was also a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar. She practiced primary care at safety net clinics in Washington for many years.
