Jesús Zambrano Grijalva is currently President of the Party of the Democratic Revolution, Mexico’s largest leftist party. He has been a federal deputy for his party as well as a social activist.
Mr. Zambrano began his political activities as a student leader while attending the University of Sonora. He entered politics and became a founding member of the PRD party. As a member of the PRD, he was a deferral representative to the LVI Legislature from 1994 to 1995. In 1997 he led an unsuccessful candidacy for his home state. In 1997, Cuauhtemoc Cardenas Solorzano was elected to the governorship of Mexico City and named Mr. Zambrano as Social Attorney.
Later on, Mr. Zambrano became delegate to one of the capital’s boroughs, a position he left to become the PRD’s General Secretary. Between 2004 and 2006 he was advisor to the Mayor of Mexico City, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador as well as Sub-Secretary of Government for the Federal District.
