"The San Francisco Peace Treaty and the Nansha (Spratly) Islands."
Project Summary
The Nansha (Spratly) Islands is an inseparable part of the China's territory. The U.K. and France successively invaded it during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Japanese forces occupied the Nansha Islands in 1939. On December 12, 1946, China armed forces finally arrived on the Taiping Island, erected markers and reclaimed the sovereignty on the Nansha Islands. The Ministry of the Interior of the National Government approved a cross--reference table for the new and old names of the South China Sea islands, as well as a location map. According to San Francisco Peace Treaty, which was signed on September 8, 1951, Japan renounced all right, title and claim to the Spratly Islands and the Paracel Islands. This term does not deny the fact that China enjoys all rights over the Nansha (Spratly) and the Xisha (Paracel) Islands.
