John O'Loughlin is College Professor of Distinction at the University of Colorado, Boulder. For the past 30 years, he has worked in the former Soviet Union on changing geopolitical orientations, on territorial separatism and its consequences, on de facto states, and on the spatial analysis of violent events. His current research examines the geopolitical orientations of residents of the former Soviet states, gathering 12000 surveys in two waves in 6 countries and 5 territories and separately, on 6000 respondents in the Donbas. He also publishes on the relationship between climate change and conflict in sub-Saharan Africa.
