Full Biography
Kazutoshi Aikawa is the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Japanese embassy in Washington, D.C. Before coming to Washington, he served as Director-General of the Disarmament, Non-Proliferation, and Science department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. His previous positions include Councillor of Cabinet Secretariat (Territorial Integrity), Deputy Director-General at the Economic Affairs Bureau and Latin American and Caribbean Affairs Bureau, Minister and Political Coordinator of the Permanent Mission of Japan to the U.N., and Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Japan in the Islamic Republic of Iran. As a former Director of the Regional Policy Division of the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) Asian regional architecture, Aikawa participated in the Japan-China-Korea East Asian Summit and Japan-ASEAN. He received his B.A. in law from the University of Tokyo in 1983 and LL.M. from Columbia Law School in 1987.
