Shikaki is a professor of political science, director of the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research (PSR) in Ramallah, and member of the steering committee of the Arab Barometer. He is also a senior fellow at the Crown Center for Middle East Studies at Brandeis University. He finished his Ph.D. in Political Science from Columbia University in 1985. A world-renowned expert on Palestinian public opinion and a widely published author, he has conducted, since 1993, hundreds of public opinion polls among Palestinians and dozens of joint Palestinian-Israeli polls. He taught at several Palestinian and American universities including al-Najah University, Birzeit University, the University of Wisconsin (Milwaukee), the University of South Florida (Tampa), the University of Utah, and the University of Michigan. Together with Yaacov Shamir, Khalil co-authored Public Opinion in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: The Public Imperative During the Second Intifada, with Yaacov Shamir (Indiana University Press, 2010). His most recent publications include Arabs and Israelis: Conflict and Peacemaking in the Middle East, (Palgrave Macmillan, 2022, second edition) with Abdel Monem Said Aly and Shai Feldman.
