Full Biography
Matthew A. Reynolds joined UNHCR in 2017 as the Regional Representative for the United States of America and the Caribbean. Previously, he was the North America Representative for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). He also served as US Assistant Secretary of State for Legislative Affairs and was the Bureau’s Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary and Acting Assistant Secretary, the Department of State’s Director of House Affairs and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Senate Affairs.
Before joining the State Department, Mr. Reynolds spent 17 years in numerous senior positions in the House of Representatives and the Senate, including as Staff Director of the House Rules Committee, as well as on the Senate Foreign Relations and House Foreign Affairs Committees. In addition, Mr. Reynolds served as Chief of Staff to US Representative Jay Kim and Legislative Director to US Representative Robert Lagomarsino, both of California. He is a Senior Congressional Fellow with the Stennis Center for Public Service at Mississippi State University, and a trustee of International College in Beirut, Lebanon. He is a graduate of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service.
