Expert Bio

Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan is the Co-Founder, Co-Chair, and CEO of the Boston Global Forum (BGF), the Co-Founder and Director of the Michael Dukakis Institute for Leadership and Innovation (MDI), and the Co-Founder of the AI World Society (AIWS) Initiative. He is also the Co-Founder of the Shinzo Abe Initiative for Peace and Security. Additionally, he is a Distinguished Member of the Wilson Center’s Institute for Strategic Competition Steering Committee.

In recognition of his work with the AI World Society Initiative and the concepts of AI-Government he developed, Vietnam National Television (VTV) named him Person of the Year 2018.

In 1996, Tuan was honored with the Top 10 Outstanding Young Vietnamese Faces Award by the Vietnamese Government.

Tuan is the Founder, CEO, and first Editor-in-Chief of VietNamNet (1997-2011), Vietnam’s leading online newspaper. He was also the Founder and CEO of VASC Software and Media Company and VietNet, Vietnam’s first TCP/IP-based Internet service provider.

As a Shorenstein Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School in 2007, Tuan conducted research on the major trends in the development of electronic media in Vietnam.

Tuan served on the Harvard Business School Global Advisory Board from 2008 to 2016 and was Chair of the International Advisory Committee of the UNESCO-UCLA Chair on Global Learning and Global Citizenship Education at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Tuan created Global Cybersecurity Day, produced the BGF-G7 Summit Initiative, the AIWS-G7 Summit Initiative, and co-authored the Ethics Code of Conduct for Cyber Peace and Security (ECCC).

In November 2017, Tuan and Governor Michael Dukakis founded the AI World Society Initiative. On June 25, 2018, Tuan, Governor Dukakis, Professors Thomas Patterson and Nazli Choucri announced the Concepts of AI-Government, and on November 25, 2024, Tuan, Governor Dukakis, Alex Pentland, Thomas Patterson, Elisabeth Moreno, and Yasuhide Nakayama announced the AIWS Government 24/7 model and Boston Areti AI (BAI).

Tuan became a co-author of the Social Contract for the AI Age in 2020, and the book “Remaking the World – Toward an Age of Global Enlightenment” in 2021. He co-founded the Shinzo Abe Initiative for Peace and Security in July 2022. In June 2024, Tuan, BGF, Mark Kennedy, and the Wilson Center’s Institute for Strategic Competition co-founded the Indo-Pacific Spark Initiative.
