Full Biography
Olga Solomina is a prominent Russian scholar, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Director of the Russian Institute of Geography, and professor at the Higher School of Economics.
Dr. Solomina defended D.Sc. in geography in 1998. She has worked at the Institute of Geography since 1977 and became its director in 2015. Starting from 2019, she is also the scientific leader of the HSE’s Faculty of Geography and Geoinformation Technology.
Dr. Solomina is the Chair of the Russian National Committee of the Future Earth international program. She has been a member of the PAGES (Past Global Changes) steering committee and scientific council of the International Glaciological Society, Vice-Chair of the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme, and Vice-President of the International Association of Cryospheric Sciences.
Dr. Solomina is a member of editorial boards of several Russian and international scientific journals and the author of over 150 research publications. In 2017, she was awarded the Web of Science diploma as one of the most cited Russian authors in the Earth sciences. In 2007, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize as part of the IPCC Group of Experts.
Dr. Solomina participated in and lead expeditions in the Altai, Caucasus, the Polar Urals, Pamir, Tian Shan, Sakhalin, Kamchatka, the Kuril Islands, Solovetsky Islands, and Crimea, as well as Patagonia, the Andes, the Alps, Spitzbergen (Svalbard), and the Antarctic. Her primary research interests are glaciers, climate, and indirect climate indicators.
