Full Biography
Rick Jacobsen is the Manager of Commodities Policy in the US office of the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA), where he is working to advance demand-side policies and regulations to tackle commodities-driven deforestation and also leads EIA's work in Brazil.
Prior to joining EIA, Rick was at Global Witness for over 10 years, where he led the International Forest Policy and Liberia teams before in 2013 starting the Asia Forest campaign, which focused on exposing and addressing harms to forests and indigenous communities caused by logging and oil palm plantations in Malaysia and Papua New Guinea, and improving timber trade policies in Japan and China.
Rick has a Masters degree in Neuroscience from Stanford University and a Bachelors in Biology from the University of Utah. He worked as a research biologist for five years at Sandia National Laboratory before joining Global Witness.
