research for a book on the history of the Soviet Army; research in the CPSU Central Committee archives on microfilm; present a history of the Soviet Army from 1918 to 1991 on selected themes using social history methodology as well as traditional approaches to the study of military systems; explain the evolution of the Soviet military from a tool of revolution to a traditional state institution
