Ryan Irwin writes about the intersection of global governance, international law, and American power during the twentieth century.  His first book, Gordian Knot: Apartheid and the Unmaking of the Liberal World Order (Oxford, 2012), examined this intersection against the backdrop of African decolonization.  He's won several writing and research prizes from the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations, and he's currently writing a book legal realism's influence on American liberal internationalism during the early Cold War.  He's an assistant professor at the University at Albany-SUNY.
