Expert Bio

Before opening her private consultancy in September 2024, Shauna Hemingway served for 22 years as a Canadian diplomat, most recently as Ambassador to the Dominican Republic and Deputy Head of Mission in Mexico City. Her foreign service career includes 14 years at Canadian Embassies abroad, three years leading G7 and G20 Summit policy teams in Ottawa, and three years as a trade policy negotiator pursuing agreements with partners in Asia. In addition to Mexico and the DR, Shauna has been an accredited diplomat in South Korea and the DPRK.

Prior to joining the Canadian public service, Shauna was the Deputy Head of Communications for the Kent Police in the UK (1999-2002) and a staff reporter at the Toronto Star (1996-1999). She cut her teeth in journalism at the Varsity Newspaper while studying Economics and History at the University of Toronto and is still passionate about writing, both fiction and non-fiction.
