Dr. Shelley McConnell is Assistant Professor of Government at St. Lawrence University, where she teaches Latin American politics. Her research focuses on democratic governance, the electoral system, election observation, and constitutional crises in Nicaragua. She has monitored elections in Nicaragua since 1989 with the United Nations and with the Carter Center, where she served as senior associate director of the Americas Program (1997–2007). She holds a PhD in political science from Stanford University.
