Expert Bio

Soo-Ryong Jo is a Research Fellow at the National Institute of Korean History. At the institute, he leads projects focused on collecting and translating historical materials related to South and North Korea from Russia, Europe, and the United States. He earned a master’s degree from the University of North Korean Studies and a Ph.D. from Kyung Hee University. His doctoral dissertation explores the relationship between Soviet-North Korean relations and the formation of economic structures in the 1950s and 1960s. Recently, he has been interested in topics such as changes in North Korea's agricultural system during the 1950s and 1960s, North Korea's federal unification proposal of 1960, and debates between Soviet and North Korean historians in the early 1960s.
