Expert Bio

Dr. Yuliia Soroka is a cultural sociologist and Professor at the Department of Sociology at N.V. Karazin Kharkiv National University in Ukraine. She is also a Senior Researcher in the Human Geography Unit at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland. 

Her work explores symbolic spaces in Ukrainian society, touching on a variety of themes, including post-Soviet transformation, media discourse, urban symbolic change, and power relations in culture.

Her latest research focuses on the sociocultural impact of military occupation, including autoethnographic studies on life under occupation and media representations of war.

She has published over 120 works, including books, research papers, and academic syllabi.
