Expert Bio

For more than ten years, Zhyldyz Urmanbetova has been researching democratic transition in Kygyzstan, tracing the influence of both Russia and the United States. She served as a Fulbright Scholar at the Harriman Institute of Columbia University in the 2009-2010 program year, studying this project in the context of globalization. She is the author of several monographs, including "Culture of the Kyrgyz within the Projection of History" (1997), "Philosophy of Culture" (2000) and "The Sources and Tendencies of Kyrgyz Culture Development" (2009).

"Kyrgyzstan's Transformations: Influence of Russia and USA."

Project Summary

This project conducts the social and political analysis of transformation in Kyrgyzstan in correlation to the Russian modernization process and US influences on the democratic process in Kyrgyzstan, with special attention to the social reality of the democratic society of Kyrgyzstan in the context of Russia's and US influence. This project is intended to develop recommendations for improving the social structure, political life and cultural-ethnic wealth of Kyrgyzstan.
