Wilson Memo: "Security & Violence Against Women in Mexico"
Following one of our most recent events, "Mexico's Women's Protests One Year Later" featuring Alexandra Zapata Hojel and Dr. Gema Kloppe-Santamaría, this Wilson Memo provides Congressional staffers with an in-depth analysis of violence against women in Mexico and developments in the women's feminist movement since the March 8, 2020, protest. Included in the memo is background on women's economic and physical security and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. This memo also analyzes the response of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) and his dismissal of the security issues specifically targeting women. Finally, outlook on the situation and potential U.S. policy options are provided.
