Salomón Chertorivski Woldenberg
Salomón Chertorivski Woldenberg is the Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) candidate for the Head of Government of Mexico City. Born in 1974 in Mexico City to a Polish and Ukrainian Jewish family, he holds a master's degree in Public Policy from Harvard University, a bachelor's and master's in Economics from ITAM, and was a research professor at the Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas (CIDE).
Chertorivski’s political career began in the early 2000s, during which he served as the Coordinator of the Social Cabinet in Michoacán during the governorship of Lázaro Cárdenas Batel (PRD). He joined then-president-elect Felipe Calderón’s transition team in 2006. From 2006 to 2009, Chertorivski served as Director General of Diconsa — a majority state-owned company that belonged to the Social Development Sector — overseeing the installation of 19,000 telephones in communities without cellular coverage and the delivery of food, water, and shelter after 11 hurricanes and a major flood. From 2009 to 2011, he was the National Commissioner of the Social Health Protection System.
Chertorivski served as Secretary of Health from 2011 to 2012, bringing 55 million people without access to health services into Mexico’s social security system. He led the transition from a curative policy to a preventive approach, including the incorporation of the HPV vaccine into Mexico’s vaccination program. He also chaired the Assembly of the Pan American Health Organization.
From 2012 to 2017, Chertorivski served as Secretary of Economic Development (Sedeco) of Mexico City under the former Head of Government, Miguel Ángel Mancera (PRD), managing a $60 million budget. Since 2021, Chertorivski has been a plurinominal deputy for the 4th District of Mexico City for MC.
This is the second time Chertorivski has sought to lead the Government of Mexico City. His policy proposals include a safer and more efficient subway, safer streets, and, above all, a better future for young people. He emphasizes that a large part of his nominations for government positions will be women under 35 years of age.
