In this edition of Wilson Center NOW our guest is Ambassador Akbar Ahmed, Ibn Khaldun Chair of Islamic Studies at American University, and author of the new book, "Flying Man, Aristotle, and the Philosophers of the Golden Age of Islam." The book makes the case that the study of the golden age of Islam can serve as a bridge between the East and West today. Joining us to discuss the book and its implications for education is Atif Qarni, who serves as Secretary of Education for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Secretary Qarni describes efforts to improve history curriculum, and discusses his experience immigrating to the U.S. from Pakistan at age 10, and running for political office as a Muslim-American.
