CEF Director, Jennifer Turner, quoted by Times of India on the lessons from China's ChokePoint crisis

The Times of India reported on Dr. Jennifer Turner's talk on China's environmental challenges and the lessons they hold for other countries.

What lessons does China's experience hold for other countries? In a series of talks throughout India, Dr. Jennifer Turner, CEF Director, offers some insights. The Times of India covered her talk in Guwahati, where she warned against overexploiting natural resources in the North East of the country.

"Turner, who spoke on "Global Choke Point: Water-Energy-Food Confrontations in China, the US and India", at IIT-Guwahati's Centre for Energy, said China's huge dependence on coal for energy generation has put immense pressure on its water sources. She said China uses 20% of its water in the coal sector and 70% in agriculture. "China's demand for energy is outpacing its supply of freshwater. Now, it is shifting focus on clean energy. Even in the country, there are voices against large hydropower projects," Turner said."
