Introduction
Women of Liberia Mass Action for Peace, a movement started by women, played a major role in bringing about an end to its nation’s 14-year civil war in 2003. Later, the movement helped bring to power Liberia’s first female head of state, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. And women continue to play major roles as Liberia seeks to heal its deep wounds and modernize its education and business environments. One of President Johnson Sirleaf’s former key lieutenants, Olubanke King-Akerele, who served as Minister of Foreign Affiars, has written a new book, “Women’s Leadership in Post-Conflict Liberia: My Journey.”
