President Obama has repeatedly said that Pakistan is the central front in the war against terrorism. Few believe we can succeed in Afghanistan if we don't succeed in Pakistan, where many of those responsible for the 9/11 attacks now enjoy sanctuary. Washington has applauded the new vigor recently shown in the Swat Valley by the Pakistan army, but wonders whether it is sustainable.
