José Ramon Cossío Díaz was appointed to the Supreme Court in 2003. Prior to that he was a professor of constitutional law at ITAM for nine years and served as Dean of the law school. He is one of Mexico's most respected legal scholars and has published sixteen books and dozens of articles. In 1998 the Mexican Academy of Sciences awarded him the Prize for Best Research in the Social Sciences in recognition of his work.
