UQAM Conference: Fences, Walls, and Borders: State of Insecurity? (Montréal)

May 17, 2011 // 8:30am7:00pm

International Conference at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM)
Tuesday, May 17th and Wednesday, May 18th 2011

Twenty years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the question still remains: "Do good fences still make good neighbours?" In recent years, the wall has been given renewed vigour in North America, particularly along the U.S.-Mexico border, and in Israel-Palestine. But the success of these new walls in the development of friendly and orderly relations between nations (or indeed, within nations) remains unclear. What role does the wall play in the development of security and insecurity? Exactly what kind of security is associated with border walls?

The Canada Institute is pleased to be a co-sponsor of this timely conference, which looks at border relations.

This event is being held at the Université du Québec à Montréal
Agora Hydro-Québec
Complexe des sciences Pierre Dansereau
