On 25-26 July 2005, CWIHP hosted a Critical Oral History Conference on "The Carter Administration and the Arc of Crisis, 1977-1981". The event was cosponsered with the Middle East Program (WWICS) and the National Security Archive. The discussion centered around U.S. policy towards Iran and Afghanistan, the Iranian revolution of 1979, and the Iranian hostage crisis.
