“The Wilson Center’s Environmental Change and Security Program was one of the first to recognize the critical connections between the environment, population dynamics, and security,” says former Wilson Center President and Director Lee Hamilton on the 20th anniversary of the program.

“The very first time I came to the Wilson Center it was to attend a luncheon with the Norwegian Prime Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland giving her first address in the United States as head of the WHO. From that day, I was impressed with ECSP’s ability to bring together thinkers and doers so they could understand and anticipate new, non-traditional foreign policy issues.”
