Abundant and Sustainable Future

To secure a future powered by clean, sustainable energy, we are focusing on key areas that position Brazil as a leader in the energy transition and global food security. The preservation of the Amazon Forest is essential for food security and resource resilience. By embracing renewable energy and green bioeconomies, Brazil can drive bio-based solutions for food, fuel, and materials, reducing carbon emissions and fostering sustainable production.

Through the Latin America Sustainable Agriculture Initiative, we address the intersection of agribusiness and climate change, supporting sustainable food systems and long-term food security. The Wilson Center’s Latin America Energy Transition Initiative highlights critical minerals and renewable energy investment opportunities across the Americas. This initiative aims to improve the investment climate for these projects and encourages stronger support from the United States and multilateral development banks, enhancing the region's role in clean energy supply chains in the Western Hemisphere.

Feeding the World: A Conversation with Latin American Agriculture Ministers

Sustainable Agriculture Initiative

The Wilson Center’s Sustainable Agriculture Initiative promotes sustainable food production in the Americas to improve global food security while promoting hemispheric cooperation and minimizing environmental impacts, including deforestation and carbon and methane emissions. Brazil and the United States together produce one-quarter of the world’s food, and countries such as Argentina are also among the world’s top exporters of corn, wheat, soybeans, chicken, and beef. This initiative promotes advanced agricultural technologies and policies to boost productivity and resilience to climate change in Latin America. The region, crucial for global food supply, faces severe challenges from biodiversity loss and extreme weather events, particularly in vulnerable areas like the Caribbean and Central America's dry corridor. In Brazil, recent floods in Rio Grande do Sul caused billions in agricultural losses. In partnership with IICA, the Latin America Sustainable Agriculture Initiative fosters research and dialogue among experts, policymakers, and industry leaders to drive sustainable practices.
