In recent years, headlines across Africa have highlighted increased coups, contested and uncontested elections, declining voter turnout, and large-scale protest movements. These events have raised questions about democratic decline across the continent. To decipher the trends across Africa and bring context and focus to the broader conversations, the Wilson Center Africa Program and the SSRC’s African Peacebuilding Network and Next Generation Social Sciences in Africa program are convening a series on Trendlines and Transformations in African Democratic Governance.
