Monuments and Memorials: Meaning and Mania

February 4, 2013

This week on a new episode of Dialogue at the Wilson Center, we take a look at Washington’s many monuments and memorials that attract tourists and visitors from around the world. Charles Tampio, civic educator and former vice president of programs for the Close Up Foundation, discusses his new presentation, Monuments and Memorials: Meaning and Mania, which provides insight into the meaning and stories behind the great landmarks. During our second segment, we’re joined by Laura Deal, catalog specialist with the Center’s History and Public Policy program. She introduces the new Cold War Digital Archive website, a resource which contains once-secret documents from governments around the world and provides fresh insights into the history of international relations and diplomacy.
