Nick Clooney's career includes time as a journalist, anchorman, author, game show host, and even a candidate for Congress. Most recently he's taught courses at American University as Distinguished Journalist in Residence, and has hosted a series of film discussion at the Newseum under the banner of "Reel Journalism."
The storyline on trends in the news media is a familiar one. Newspaper readership is in decline and the blogosphere is in ascension. Budget cuts and layoffs are threatening to undermine the capacity of news organizations to do serious reporting. What remains of mainstream media drifts further away from hard news and more towards an entertainment paradigm.
