The continent must engage the full force of its developmental potential while protecting its rich but endangered environment. Wangari Maathai, author of "The Challenge for Africa" and the 2004 recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, calls for finding enlightened leadership that will invest in the people, in education, in health care and the environment of the continent.
