"Sino-Vietnamese relations from the Battle of Paracel Islands to the Sino-Vietnamese War"
Project Summary
The project is aimed at addressing the general puzzle: why the Chinese and Vietnamese communists, who had been close comrades plus brothers for more than twenty years since1949, at least as they claimed to be, turned against each other shortly after the American withdrawal from Indochina and finally fought a major war in 1979 and numerous border skirmishes in the ensuing ten years.
