Dr. David Patrick Houghton is a Professor of National Security Affairs at the US Navy War College in Newport, Rhode Island. His books include 'Losing An Empire, Finding A Role' (second edition with David Sanders, Palgrave Macmillan, 2017), 'The Decision Point' (Oxford University Press, 2012), 'A Citizen's Guide to American Foreign Policy' (Routledge, 2013), 'Political Psychology: Situations, Individuals, and Cases' (Routledge, 2009) and 'U.S. Foreign Policy and the Iran Hostage Crisis' (Cambridge University Press, 2001). His area of expertise is political psychology and decision-making in international relations, with a particular focus on American foreign policy and US-Iranian relations. He has published academic articles in journals such as the British Journal of Political Science, Political Psychology, Security Studies, Terrorism and Political Violence, Policy Sciences, Foreign Policy Analysis, International Studies Review, Journal of Cold War Studies, Peace and Conflict and International Politics.
