Full Biography
Mr. Popov, a senior analyst at the Ukrainian Institute of the Future, deals with domestic policy analysis and security issues. He managed the project to reform the Security Service of Ukraine, with the aim of focusing this body on counterintelligence and the fight against terrorism. Igor Popov became one of the authors of the study Conflicts that Changed the World, which analyzed the history of regional conflicts of the second half of the 20th century and the lessons for Ukraine. Mr. Popov also studies the processes of decentralization and regional politics in Ukraine.
Igor Popov also has experience in practical work in the field of politics. He began his career at the Committee of Voters of Ukraine organization, which is engaged in election observation and monitoring the government activities. After that, he worked on top positions in state bodies - he was the deputy head of the Secretariat of President Yushchenko in 2009-2010. In 2011-2013 he worked in the National Agency for Civil Service in the 1st Deputy Head position. During his term in parliament (2014-2019) Mr. Popov mainly worked on security issues, election legislation, and anti-corruption legislation. He also was a member of the Ukrainian delegation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
Mr. Popov constantly analyzes and comments on political events for the Ukrainian mass media, and writes analytical articles on domestic policy and national security issues.
