Full Biography
Joseph Chinyong Liow is the inaugural holder of the Lee Kuan Yew Chair in Southeast Asia Studies and senior fellow at the Brookings Center for East Asia Policy Studies. Liow’s research interests encompass Muslim politics in Southeast Asia and the international politics of the Asia-Pacific region. He is the author of Islam, Reform, and Education in Southern Thailand: Tradition and Transformation (2009), Piety and Politics: Islamism in Contemporary Malaysia (2009), The Politics of Indonesia-Malaysia Relations: One Kin, Two Nations (2005) and Dictionary of the Modern Politics of Southeast Asia, fourth edition (2014).
