Full Biography
Drawing on 15 years of experience in accounting, administration, and logistics in Syria, Lara Shahin established the Jasmine Foundation for the Economic Empowerment of Women in 2014. Starting with 5 women who left the Zaatari camp, Jasmine now employs 40 women and has helped many more secure work opportunities and earn a living making various crafts like crochet, soap, embroidery, stained glass, and many more. Jasmine’s mission is to help Syrian families, especially widows with children establish a new life with dignified work.
Shahin is dedicated to empowering Syrian women to become entrepreneurs. In 2020, she attended the We-Fi MENA Regional Summit in Dubai and the Brussels V Conference "Supporting the future of Syria and the region" in 2019. From 2011 - 2018 she was a member of Hill Organization for Syria Justice Innovation Process.
