Malia Wilson

Expert Bio

Malia Wilson is a junior at the University of Maryland, pursuing a major in Public Health Science, and minors in International Development and Spanish Language. Her academic interests include civilian security issues in Latin America and the Caribbean and global health equity.

Before her arrival at the Brazil Institute, Malia examined the causes of insect borne diseases prevalent in Latin America through research at her university. She also volunteered with nonprofit organizations in Honduras and Brazil to promote the educational empowerment of elementary and middle school aged children.  She currently teaches English classes at the Latin American Youth Center, and leads weekly professional development seminars for first year students through the Honors College at the University of Maryland.
