Mariafernanda Zacarias is currently a third-year undergraduate student in the School of International Service at American University, majoring in International Studies, with a thematic focus in U.S. Foreign Policy and National Security and a regional focus in Latin America. She is also pursuing a minor in Public Relations. Prior to interning with the Mexico Institute, she interned at the Embassy of Panama, at the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of General Counsel, Ethics Division, as well as with DHS’ White House Liaison Office. Mariafernanda was also a Congressional Intern for Rep. Beto O’Rourke (TX-16).
