Full Biography
Mr. Mark Stamilio serves as the Principal Director for African Affairs in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy (OSD Policy). In this role, he supports the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for African Affairs in managing defense relationships between the United States and 53 African nations. He also supports the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy and the Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs by developing and implementing key security strategies and policies to advance defense and security cooperation on the African continent. Mr. Stamilio’s prior assignments in OSD Policy included: Deputy Director, Russia and Conventional Arms Control; Director, International Humanitarian Policy; Director, Counterterrorism Partnership Strategies; and Director, Detainee Policy. Prior to joining OSD Policy, Mr. Stamilio served as a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State in Colombia, Paraguay, and the Office of the Ambassador-at-Large for War Crimes Issues, and as a U.S. Army Judge Advocate in Panama, Honduras, and Germany. Mr. Stamilio received a Bachelor of Arts in Government, cum laude, from Georgetown University, a Juris Doctor from the Georgetown University Law Center, and a Master of Science in National Security Strategy from the National War College.
