Samuel Dempsey is the editor at The Mainichi Newspapers Europe Bureau in Brussels, where he researches EU and NATO affairs. He is also an incoming Presidential Management Fellow at the U.S. Department of State.
Affiliated with various think tanks, Samuel’s research focuses on transatlantic relations (NATO/EU-U.S./NATO-EU), EU CFSP and external economic policy, and U.S. grand strategy in Eurasia. He has contributed to several think tanks, including the Trans European Policy Studies Association (TEPSA), New Eastern Europe, the Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA), the Transatlantic Policy Quarterly, and European Horizons, among others.
His public sector experience spans roles in the U.S. Congress, the Department of State, and the Department of Commerce.
He holds an M.A. in Geopolitics and Strategic Studies from the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M), summa cum laude, and a B.A. in Journalism and Communications (International Relations Concentration) from the Anglo-American University Prague (AAU).
